Police officers are gearing up for this year's Special
Olympics fundraising efforts. The Special Olympics North
Carolina allows people with intellectual disabilities to
develop physical fitness and self-confidence through
athletic training and competition. Each year, law
enforcement officers from around the state hold fundraising
events to raise money and awareness for these special
athletes. These efforts bring in more than $1 million
dollars annually for the Special Olympics programsThe
Garner Police Department will be hosting two fundraisers
this year in support of the Special Olympics. The annual
gold challenge will be held on July 11, 2008 starting at 1pm
at Reedy Creek Golf
Course. Dinner will be served at the conclusion of the
challenge. Awards and a raffle will then conclude the
afternoon. Cost is $300 per team and sponsorships are
available for as little as $100. The annual Bar-B-Q will be

carrying the Torch to Raleigh for the
Summer
Games on June 6th.
