Garner Police officers are gearing up for this year's Special Olympics fundraising efforts. The Special Olympics North Carolina allows people with intellectual disabilities to develop physical fitness and self-confidence through athletic training and competition. Each year, law enforcement officers from around the state hold fundraising events to raise money and awareness for these special athletes. These efforts bring in more than $1 million dollars annually for the Special Olympics programs

The Garner Police Department will be hosting two fundraisers this year in support of the Special Olympics. The annual gold challenge will be held on July 11, 2008 starting at 1pm at Reedy Creek Golf Course. Dinner will be served at the conclusion of the challenge. Awards and a raffle will then conclude the afternoon. Cost is $300 per team and sponsorships are available for as little as $100. The annual Bar-B-Q will be held in the near future. Offices from the Garner Police Department will be carrying the Torch to Raleigh for the Summer Games on June 6th.

If you would like to volunteer to help or if you need more information please contact Sgt. Mike McIver at 919-772-8810.
