In February 1980, the then unnamed crime dog in a rumpled trench coat made his television and print media debut. By July the winner of a nationwide contest had named the dog McGruff. This was the beginning of the McGruff campaign and the National Citizens' Crime Prevention Campaign. [Visit McGruff.org]
