Joe Binns
Sergeant Joe Binns began his law enforcement career with Garner PD in 1993. After working patrol by car and bicycle, he became the Department’s DARE officer in 1996. He taught drug resistance and awareness programs to Garner school children for more than a year. Joe eventually competed for and became the Department’s Youth Services Investigator in 1997.
Investigator Binns specialized in juvenile victims, offenders, and INTERNET crimes. He served on the Wake County Gang Prevention Task Force for several years.
Binns was promoted to Sergeant in 2003 from Investigations and supervised a patrol squad in the West District. He currently serves as the Public Information and Training Officer for the department and supervises the Community Services Division. Sergeant Binns is also a member of the Special Response Team.
Sergeant Binns earned his BA in Criminal Justice from NC State University. He is a certified State Instructor and Computer Voice Stress Analyzer (lie detector) Operator. He has successfully completed more than 2100 hours of position and occupation related training.
Sergeant Binns enjoys spending time with his family and exercising.
