
Eric Copeland is currently the Deputy Chief for the Garner Police Department. He oversees all day-to-day sworn operations for the agency, including Patrol Operations, Investigations and Admistrative Services.
Eric has been employed with the Town of Garner since January 1991. He was selected as the first School Resource Officer for the Department in 1993 serving at Garner Magnet High School. He was promoted in 1995 to Lieutenant in Patrol Operations, Major of Operations in 2001 and to Deputy Chief in 2006.
Deputy Chief Copeland received his BA Degree in Political Science from N.C. State University and his Masters of Business Administration from Pfeiffer University. Deputy Chief Copeland is a graduate of the 212th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA and the 40th Session of PERF's Senior Management Institute for Police in Boston, MA. He is an active member of both the National and North Carolina chapters of the FBI National Academy Associates. He currently serves as the Third Vice President for the NC chapter. Deputy Chief Copeland is an active member of the NC Police Executives Association , International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF). Deputy Chief Copeland also serves as an Adjunct Professor for Kaplan University in the School of Criminal Justice.
Deputy Chief Copeland is a member of the Garner Mid-Day Rotary Club where he serves as the Club Treasurer and is a Paul Harris Fellow . He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Garner Education Foundation and volunteers with SCOR (Schools and Community Organized to Read) where he reads with 2nd grade students.
