On Friday, May 28, 2010, Officer Jean Caquias was sworn-in as Garner police's newest officer. Jean was born on November 6, 1984 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He moved to Providence, Rhode Island in 2000 where he attended, and subsequently graduated from Central High School in 2002. After receiving his diploma, he went the Community College of Rhode Island where he earned an Associate of Science degree in Law Enforcement in 2006.
Jean spent the next few years working in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He moved to North Carolina in December 2009 to take a position with the Garner Police Department. He has been attending Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at Wake Technical Community College for the last four months. He took his state exam last Friday, May 21st and officially graduated from BLET on June 1st, 2010.
Jean is married to his wife, Claudia and has one son, Jayniel who is 9 months old. Jean has other siblings that reside in this area, one of which is his sister & fellow Garner police officer Barbara Caquias. They are the first siblings to serve simultaneously with the Garner Police Department. In his free time, Jean enjoys spending time with his family, as well as playing baseball. Officer Caquias will be assigned to the patrol division upon his completion of the field training program.
