The Garner Police Department is pleased to announce that TT&E Iron and Metal has made a generous donation in the amount of $13,750 for the purpose of purchasing a police canine as well as training for the officer selected to work with the canine. TT&E is a local, family owned business which gives back to the Garner community through donations such as this one. They have been the primary donors for Garner Police Department’s annual “Shop With a Cop” event which provides an opportunity for disadvantaged families to go Christmas shopping.
The Garner Police Department began its patrol canine program in 1992. Our dogs are dual-purpose canines, trained in patrol duties and narcotics detection. When fully staffed we have a police canine on each of the four patrol teams so that canine teams are available each day of the week. TT&E’s donation will allow us to return to full staffing with our canine program this fall.
At the check presentation Chief Brandon Zuidema said today, “On behalf of the men and women of the Garner Police Department, I would like to thank TT&E and the Thompson family for their continued support and for their willingness to step up as community partners. Public Safety in Garner, or in any community for that matter, is not just about the police. It is about a partnership between the police and the community – including citizens and businesses willing to make a difference. TT&E is an outstanding corporate citizen and Garner is fortunate to have them.”
